Summer 2026 Newsletter - it's a New Year!

I hope your year has begun well and you’ve had time after watering the garden to plan your next project!

Hello ladies!

I hope your year has begun well and you’ve had time after watering the garden to plan your next project!

Forget about all those mass made products - come and create your own masterpiece! Our classes are free choice so you work on your project but get inspiration from other ladies in your class. If you have forgotten embroidery stitches over the years and need a little refresher – no problem, come along for just a class or two. Likewise you may have a picture of a quilt you’d like to make but need help with choosing colours – we are happy to help choosing the perfect colours to match your decor!

We are currently working on projects to take to the Australian Quilt Convention which runs from April 9th – 12th. We only take flannel fabrics to this show along with many kits!

Make sure you put the dates in your diary – it’s a great day discovering what’s new and getting oh so many new ideas to add to your list of projects to start!!

We are also in the process of adding Valdani stranded and Perle threads to our stock. The brilliant intensity of colours make it hard to choose – they are all guaranteed colour fast! We have a great selection of Perle 8 & 12 – including some with an added metallic thread woven in! All Perle threads are $13.50 and the stranded are $7.50. We will be adding many more colours over the next couple of months. Well worth a look when you’re in the shop next!!

All our little people are growing up so quickly – Ida has started grade 2, Percy started school, Huey is missing his sister and brother, Will is walking and Ollie is crawling backwards!! It’s such a joy watching their personalities develop and their likes and dislikes coming to the fore!!

Take care,

Warm regards,

Therese

Spring & Summer 2025 Newsletter

Oh, my goodness! How did this happen? How is it that the last newsletter was in April!! So, I’ll backtrack to April ….

We attended the AQC – in our usual spot which is the best spot at the show (in my opinion!) We took hundreds of our beautiful flannels, some baby blanket kits and cross stitch. It was a great show for us, and yes! we will be there again in 2026. If you’ve got next years diary put the dates in straight away – April 9th to 12th. It’s always inspiring, and sometimes daunting, seeing all the amazing quilts on display. Each stand offers different projects and the ranges of fabric are breathtaking!! We will have our amazing flannels to tempt you!

The day after the show finished I headed off overseas on the first real break I’ve had in 20 years! I flew to Paris, attended a quilt show in Nante, which was fantastic. It was fun being one of the crowd rather than a stall holder! I couldn’t believe how many cross stitch stands they had – and the display of cross stitch was incredible.

Then I spent a week in Paris – loved every minute!! My highlight being the Vintage Textile Tour I took. Rebecca took us to a vintage market – oh my goodness!! I was living my dream seeing vintage linens, buttons, clothing, vintage needlework accessories (some many thousand dollars!) Honestly there’s so much to see, you’d need years to cover it all.

After Paris I spent a week in the Cotswolds with my family. Again, it was spectacular! My Brother-in-law Ted and Carol drove me around seeing some amazing little villages and spectacular scenery wherever you looked.

Then I headed off to London for a week. They were preparing for V.E. Day, so the city was all dressed up! I visited the Liberty shop, got the train to Walthamstow to see the William Morris Museum, Savile Row and found some quaint little craft shops. After London I headed off to Edinburgh for my final week. Another amazing city and honestly the history blew my mind, being in castles hundreds of years old!! I ended my trip with High Tea on the Royal Yacht Britania – another highlight!!

I arrived home on a Friday, back to work on Monday – the next week my youngest son Liam and his wife Gladys welcomed their first child – a beautiful baby boy Oliver!

He was a very good boy and waited until Grandma got home to arrive. I had a quick trip up and back in a day to meet little Ollie on the Sunshine Coast, and he’s just perfect!

That’s all the home news ….. at the shop we’ve been busy with lots of classes. Unfortunately for the time being our Thursday night class is on hold. As we leave after 9.00pm the shopping strip is very isolated, I’m trying to work out a solution for next year.

Here we are now well into the 4th term! The shop will be closing on Friday 19th December until Monday 12th January, with our weekly classes starting 27th January. I will be holding all day classes on the 14th, 16th and 20th January. The classes will run from 10am – 4pm and are great days to bring along projects that need to be finished or just to get back on track ready for your next project. Bookings are essential for these classes and a deposit would need to be paid before Christmas.

I’ll close by thanking you all for supporting my little shop, I love being here and still say after 20 years that I haven’t worked a day since I bought the shop!! Everybody is going through tough times, but before you head straight to internet shopping, check out your local shops – we’d love your support!

I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and I’ll look forward to seeing you in 2026 with lots of new fabrics, embroidery supplies and projects to tempt you!

Warm wishes,

Therese

Hasn't Term 1 flown by - I have so much to tell you!! Firstly you need to make a note that the SHOP WILL BE CLOSED from Wednesday 9th April until Monday 12th May.

Hello Ladies,

Hasn't Term 1 flown by - I have so much to tell you!!

Firstly you need to make a note that the SHOP WILL BE CLOSED from Wednesday 9th April until Monday 12th May.

On the 9th April, we will be setting up for the Australasian Quilt Convention being held at the Royal Exhibition Building in the Carlton Gardens. The show starts on Thursday 10th and runs until Sunday 13th April. It is a great way to check out different ideas, get inspired and have a look at the amazing quilt display, let alone taking in the beautiful surroundings that are the Exhibition Building. I've actually lost count how many years we have had a stand there, for us it's fantastic meeting so many new people from all over Australia! We will be taking our flannel fabrics - there are so many new ranges, designs and colourways to choose from! We hope to see you there!

After the Quilt show I am heading off on a holiday. The past few years have been very challenging - as it is for all small businesses - and I'm sure I speak for all my colleagues in saying that we are very grateful for all your purchases whether large or small! Anyway I will be heading overseas to source some textile and haberdashery shops! I know it'll be a hard task, but I'll persevere! I get home on the 10th May, so the shop will re-open on Monday the 12th. The newest addition to the family will arrive just before I get home, so lots of exciting events to look forward to!

We have lots of classes to offer you - both new and old! We have our weekly classes which we run the same as the school term - in a nutshell there are 8 patchwork classes each week, 4 embroidery classes then the workshops. Maureen Tarnok teaches the amazing Dimensional Embroidery on alternative Wednesday mornings. Catherine Howell is here on the 4th Saturday of the month (not April) - she also has a quilt on display at the AQC! Keep your eye open to see that! Veronique Diligent is teaching her new quilt too! Find all times and dates under classes.

Catherine is teaching an all day class on the 4th Friday of the month. We still have some spaces available if you'd like to join her, just ring to book in. The ladies are stitching some amazing projects including a wool quilt embroidered with Australian animals!

Veronique will be teaching a class for her new quilt- Jardin de Poche - The 4 Seasons. This class will be held on the 3rd Saturday of the month beginning 20th June, 10.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. Veronique is happy for you to make any of her quilts in this class. Just give me a call to book your place.

We have been inundated with deliveries of flannels over the past few weeks! I've got most loaded onto the website, but there's still a lot to add - Peter Rabbit and Guess How Much I Love You for starters! The black, charcoal, dark grey, and 2 dark blues have finally come too!

Take care, happy stitching and we might see you at the AQC!

Warm wishes,
Therese

I hope everyone is organised for all the upcoming Christmas activities! I’m not, I’m very much a last minute girl.

Hello ladies!

I hope everyone is organised for all the upcoming Christmas activities! I’m not, I’m very much a last minute girl, although I will be starting the Christmas shopping tomorrow and not my usual 23td December, so I guess I’ll be ahead of schedule!!

Lots of news today – firstly the arrival of my new grandson! Baby William David arrived on the 17th November – he is my son Matthew and daughter-in-law Sarah’s first baby, and is just adorable! There’s nothing quite like cuddling a newborn to warm your heart!

These past couple of weeks have been very busy – so many deliveries of flannel! Just in time to get a start on your quilts for winter. I haven’t got them on the website as yet – that’ll be a project for the Christmas break! I’ve also got lots of cottons – big bold floral prints! There will definitely be a new project happening during the holidays!

We will again be attending the Australasian Quilt Convention at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. That will be held from 10th – 13th of April next year. Save the date for that, it’s a great show!

I am holding some all day classes in January before our regular weekly classes start. The dates are Thursday 16th, Monday 20th and Friday 24th January. The classes are from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and cost $90.00. These are free choice classes, so you can bring a new project to make a start, bring one to finish, bring one that you’re stuck on or bring along a project to help you get back into doing something just for you!
These days are great fun – just send me an email to book your spot!!

The shop will be closing from lunchtime December 18th until Monday 13th January. I would like to send my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has come into the shop this year – whether to do classes, make a purchase or simply having a browse and a chat! You are the reason I’m so happy to come to work every day and I have no idea what I’d do with myself without this place! As I always say I haven’t worked a day since I bought the shop …… and that is coming up to 20 years!!

Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you next year.

Warmest Regards,
Therese

Having dodged nearly all bugs going around for months, one has finally got me! I’ve been home since last Thursday – on the couch (I know so unlike me!) having had the worst cold I’ve had for years! This is only the 2nd time in 18 years the shop has been closed due to me being unwell - however, I am on the mend now and the shop will re-open tomorrow!

A lot has happened over the past month! I had a new range of flannels arrive – Folk Art Flannel 111 – they are absolutely perfect if you’ve been after checks & plaids suitable for a mans quilt, or even to mix with some beautiful florals!

As you would know, Bustle & Bows in Warrandyte has closed. Shirley has earned her retirement & I wish her all the best for the future! Although I have heard you become so busy when you retire, you wonder how you ever found time to go to work!!

We are so happy to announce that Ana Mallah who teaches embroidery here weekly on Fridays, has brought 2 of her Bustle & Bows classes across to us!! Ana will hold alternate Wednesday am & pm classes – the 1st & 3rd Wed of the month, and an all day class on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. Phone to book a spot!!

At the start of July Robyn & I headed over to Adelaide for Craft Alive. We hadn’t attended this craft show before, so it was great to meet so many ladies in South Australia who’ve been looking for flannels!! These shows are always so much fun, I love everybody’s enthusiasm for their crafts! As we arrived a day early we hired a car and were able to head down to Glenelg (fish & chips on the foreshore) and also had a quick trip to Hahndorf! That was so beautiful we could have spent the whole day there!!

I’ll be back at the shop tomorrow – looking forward to being around people again!!

Warmest regards,
Therese

Hello & Happy New Year everybody! The shop has re-opened today after a 3 week break - and how quickly that passed!!

While I didn't venture away I spent precious time with my family, spent hours in the garden .... when it wasn't raining, sorted through cupboards, read some books and simply took some time out!

Which gave me time to come up with some quite different & novel ideas for new projects. They are still in the pipeline, but well into the design stages!

In the meantime, as I’ve given up on New Year resolutions, I thought it might be fun to finish one unfinished project each month! What do you think? We could even have a class each month to keep on track and encourage each other! Stay tuned for details (the class would be held on a Friday afternoon).

Here’s hoping we all have a happy & healthy 2024!

Take care,

Therese

Hello Ladies,

After much consideration I have decided to close the shop on Saturdays. It will be open by appointment only, arranged either by phone or email in the week prior. Appointments will be between 10.00 and 1.00pm. This will be starting on Saturday 4th November. I apologise for any inconvenience this causes - after 18 years of working 6 days a week, I'm finding I need some 'me' time!!

In other news we had a great time in Hobart last week - the weather was beautiful and the Craft Show was terrific too. We came home with much less stock than we took over! Thank you to everyone who came and visited our stand, we hope to see you next year too!

I also booked with Craft Alive for their craft show in Adelaide next year!! This will be held from the 5th to the 7th July. Another first for us!!

Thank you for your understanding regarding Saturday trading, looking forward to seeing you soon,

Best wishes,

Therese

The show is held 6th, 7th & 8th October. The shop will be closed during this time, and a few days before while I catch my breath!

Hello Ladies,

Firstly please note that the shop will be closed tomorrow Saturday 5th August.

I am having a family day as my youngest son and his fiancee from the Sunshine Coast are coming to Melbourne for the weekend. They have just returned from a trip around Europe, so there's lots to catch up on there! They are coming to meet our new addition to the family - My eldest son and his wife have welcomed their 3rd baby, little Huey who is already 2 weeks old!! We are also catching up with my 2nd son and his wife who have just moved back in to their home after a big renovation!! So you see there's a lot to fit into a couple of days - I apologise if this is an inconvenience, but it's family first!!

This week has been another big one for deliveries of more flannel! I haven't got them on the website as yet - that'll be next weeks job! There are some florals - on black and off white background, some soft childrens dsigns and Tonka Trucks, Peppa Pig and Lightening McQueen.

I've also got lots of pre-printed embroidery panels - Gorgeous designs with different flowers to embroider - another range to add to the website.

Have a good weekend,

Therese

Hello Ladies,

Welcome to Term 3 at Craftpaks! We have had so much fabric delivered in the past 2 weeks!! We have a selection from Moda - William Morris fabrics - the range is Morris Meadow and is already on the website! (I know! amazing!!) They are just gorgeous and include some very dainty blenders. More fabrics from Moda are from the range Cascade - also on the website. They are beautiful blues and beige, again some tone on tone little blenders.

The big news though is that I have managed to get some more Fall Melody Flannels - this is the beautiful range in cosy Autumn colours I sold out of at the AQC in April! I now have in stock the panel and the fabrics with the large autumn leaves, so if you missed out earlier they too are on the website!! Don't think about it for too long as they are already selling quickly!

If you are coming to the shop in the next few weeks you will notice a totally new front window display - it looks amazing and is the work of Glenn who we met at the AQC.

Remember to give me a call or email me if you're after flannel that isn't on the website. As pointed out earlier, if there is 1m or less on a bolt I delete it from the website. There are hundreds of 30cm x the width of the fabric precut pieces, small amounts left on the bolt and packaged up end of bolt pieces. I can send you photo's if you're after something specific.

Enjoy the winter - great weather for stitching and time to prune the roses!!

Best wishes,

Therese

Hello Ladies,

Firstly I apologise if any of you have called in on Saturdays when the shop has been closed over the past few weeks - sometimes there things I just have to do and Saturday is the only day possible!! I don't anticipate anything else cropping up in the near future though.

We are drawing to the end of term 2 (I swear each year goes faster than the previous one!) and I'm starting on some projects in anticipation of being prepared for Christmas! We have an Australiana Advent calendar that is actually finished! It's a great project to use up those random beads and threads left over from other projects. I have embellished each pocket which is a lot of fun to do. We have plenty of panels which you can work on at home or come and join in some classes for extra inspiration!!

It's definately the flannel season - our flannel has been walking out the door!! Remember if you're after small pieces and can't see what you're after on the website, give me a call or send an email - as soon as the bolts get down to about 1m left on the bolt, I delete them from the website. There are lots of smaller quantities available and I'm happy to send photo's before you order so you can match colours etc.

Just a note about our group of ladies who come in fortnightly to make items for us to sell raising money for the Royal Children's Hosp. They do a wonderful job and at the moment there is lots of little baby jackets and last week we got some bigger jumpers. We still have some bigger quilts for sale - 2 beautiful pansy quilts and there is always smaller cot quilts. All items turn over very quickly, so stock is constantly changing.

Enjoy the chilly weather,

Best wishes,

Therese

Hello Ladies!

Well I've already failed with the New Year resolutions! That is updating the newsletter every couple of weeks!! Anyway here I am and talk about starting the year with a bang!! Our patchwork classes are out of control which is brilliant!

We are all stocked up with flannels - whatever you're after I can just about guarantee we'll have it!! I'm making a sample at the moment with the Fall Melody flannels - I've cut up the panel and making a log cabin block ...... ok, so its still evolving! I have received a big delivery of soft pastels - Little Lambies - so that'll be my next sample! I need to get a move on and get them finished before we attend the Australian Quilt Convention starting 13th April. Did you see if you buy your tickets online they are a little cheaper than buying them on the day.

Over the past couple of years I have become a collector of lots of different vintage sewing tools, exquisite hand stitched doilies and cloths and even some beautiful hand made nighties! I have a collection that were my mothers - including her old Singer sewing machine that she got in 1950! As ladies in our area here are downsizing, they very generously give me their treasures, which I then use in displays - I absolutely love it!! I've got a gazillion photo's to add to our gallery, and hope to get to that job in the next few weeks.

I have a lot of quilts that have been donated to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. They are all in the front window at the moment. As you probably know we have a very special group of ladies who come in once a fortnight to make items that we sell to raise money all year round. If you're going to the Garden Show in a couple of weeks, make sure you look out for the R.C.H. Auxilliary stand upstairs at the Exhibition Buildings in Carlton Gardens. There are lots of goodies to buy there apart from plants!

Take care,

Therese

Hello Ladies!

Welcome to 2023 at Craftpaks - I've got everything crossed for a fantastic year! 2022 was a very busy year - 2 of my sons got married, we attended craft shows in Ballarat, Bendigo, Jeff's shed and Hobart! By the end of the year I was exhausted!!

This year we are attending the Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens Melbourne - this show runs from Thursday 13th April until Sunday 16th April. We are very excited to be back in this beautiful venue and looking forward to catching up with lots of ladies both local and from interstate! Please note that the shop will be closed during those few days.

I had huge deliveries of flannel just prior to Christmas - Moda's Fall Melody Flannel has already been added to the website, I still have about 45 new bolts to add over the next couple of days.

I look forward to seeing our ladies back for classes from Monday 30th January, all with renewed energy and lots of different ideas!

Best Wishes,

Therese

The shop will be closed from Wednesday 5th October - Tuesday 11th October while we are at the Craft Alive Craft Show in Hobart! Our 1st overseas show!!

                                     ********************

Well it's been wonderful to be out in the garden again, shame the weeds have taken off with gusto!! Anyway it does your soul good to be outside!

At the moment I am getting ready for the Craft Alive Craft show in Hobart! I haven't done this show before and I'm very excited to be heading there next week! I'm packing up lots of embroidery packs and kits, cross stitches, pre-printed cloths and table runners, baby blankets and loads more .... and thats just the embroidery side, I still have to pack the patchwork fabric! There are so many new flannels it'll be hard to decide what to leave at home!

Unfortunately the shop will be closed while I'm away, so make sure you note the days it'll be closed.

Cottage Garden have deleted a lot of their threads recently. If you need any particular colours, you can email me before you come over to check if I still have some in stock. They have some new colours out, but not good news if you're part-way through a project!

Looking forward to Term 4 starting next week, it seems like a very quick year now that we are heading to Christmas! I have 2 sons getting married in October and November, so extra busy for me!! The shop will be closed for a few days around those dates, but I'll let you know when it gets a bit closer to the times.
